Corus, the second largest steel producer in Europe, has signed a contract with Tecnogamma, a MERMEC Group company, for the supply of an optoelectronic measuring system that will be used in rolling plant for on-line checking of hot rails during production phase.
Hayange, France – Top quality rails produced by Corus, including the entire production of high-speed rails, need the best quality control available in the market. Thanks to its long-term experience in design and development of highly reliable measurement systems for extreme environments, Tecnogamma, a MERMEC Group company, has been chosen by Corus for the supply of one Hot Profile Gauge System to be used to measure rails during production phase.
The Tecnogamma Hot Profile Gauge System, named “ProfileCheck”, is an optical non-contact measuring system able to determine key dimensional data of the rails and to automatically discover surface defects. ProfileCheck will be installed after the finishing stand to identify rail defects directly on the production line, enabling the client to correct, in real time, the working parameters.
The measuring system has been used for years, by several major rolling mills: JINDAL STEEL & POWER LTD.- India; BSP Bhilai Steel - India; AFV BELTRAME, Italy & France.
