Aim: The project aims to contribute to the rail freight system to allow it to regain position and market and the proposed solution is based on a combined improvement in both freight vehicle and track components in a holistic approach aimed at achieving a higher reliability and increased performance of the rail freight system as a whole and profitability for all the stakeholders.
EURAXLES: Minimizing the risk of fatigue failure of railway axles
Aim: The project aims to develop innovative, safer solutions for railway wheelsets with improved reliability in a cost effective way. Activities will improve design validation and inspection technologies of axles which will optimise costs, safety and environmental compliance to be shown with RAMS/LCC analyses. Results will be disseminated to the different stakeholders and the European standards/regulations for railway axles and wheelsets will be improved across Europe.

MU-STEEL: Muons scanner to detect radioactive sources hidden in scrap metal containers
Aim: The Mu-Steel project aims at applying the Muon Tomography technique in an inspection gate devoted to the detection of shielded radioactive material inside the scrap metal containers. (For steel industry application).
CARSLIDE: Mapping and monitoring system for landslides forecast
Aim: The present project concerns the realization of a diagnostic system that, by integrating in situ data detected from on board train innovative measuring systems, with Earth Observation techniques, will be capable to foresee and monitor landslide events along rail networks. Advanced SAR interferometry techniques will be implemented, able to detect small ground surface deformations that in several cases precede the critical failure phase leading to landslide movements.
SHIRA: Satellite at High Resolution TIR
Aim: The project concerns the study of a spatial mission providing high resolution data in the thermal infrared region (TIR).
